Letter from the President

Greetings USBG members and welcome to our new USBG.org site!

I hope you are finding it as easy to navigate as I am and see the great potential it will offer us in sharing and staying connected.

I have been a member since 2002 and in 2003 started the 3rd USBG chapter in San Francisco Chapter with a few friends.

The USBG was very different back then. Less than 200 members, 3 chapters,  the internet was a whole lot slower and did not have much in the likes of social media, just a few computer wizzes with a passion for cocktails to help us along the way.

What we did have then that we do have now is a ton of passion! Great leaders and mentors that have paved the way for all of us to find our special spot in this industry.

The USBG has been great at that; providing opportunities for those willing to put in the work!

I have been the USBG National President now for just over 5 years, growing from 17 chapters to 52 chapters in that time.

Growing from a staff of one to a staff of 6 and a Board of Directors from 4 to a Board of 9.

These changes did not come easy. It has taken more than just leadership to bring this together, it has taken hard work and many hours of research and development to fight our way to the place we are in now.

We have made mistakes, but with such a strong dedicated Board and an amazing staff led by our Executive Director Aaron Gregory Smith, we have been able to solve problems, and doing so have made us all that much stronger.

Under our current system we have modernized our bylaws, created policies, methods for making it easier to start up chapters that are set up for success from the beginning, we have great systems for dealing with conflicts, and systems for ensuring the future of the USBG will be ready for the next generation of bartenders and leaders.

The National Organization of the USBG hosts competitions, plans educational events, prepares for leadership conferences, and regional events; the one thing that is certain and constant is our USBG Mission: Uniting the hospitality industry to advance professional bartending.

I look forward to sharing with you more in the near future as the USBG Board works alongside our staff to bring you our amazing member’s great events and opportunities.

Happy holidays and be safe!
