Did you know that the world’s very first brewers were women? Long before beer became a global industry, it was women who perfected the craft and shaped its role in society. Join TV journalist and beer/spirits author Tara Nurin (A Woman’s Place Is in the Brewhouse) for a fascinating journey through
time as she uncovers the forgotten contributions of these pioneering women—and reveals how their brews helped to develop civilization itself.

USBG Phoenix Director Jeff Cooley will also be sharing the story behind the chapter’s collaboration with O.H.S.O. Brewery to create BEEP BEAP Beer—a special release brewed in honor of the USBG’s 75th Anniversary. Discover the process behind this unique project and gain insights on how your own chapter can team up with local breweries to craft custom collaborations with purpose.

Tara Nurin is a veteran freelance journalist covering the intersections of food, beverage, business, culture, and identity. A regular beer and spirits contributor to Forbes, she’s also written for outlets including USA Today and Food Network. Tara’s first book, A Woman’s Place Is in the Brewhouse (2021), won top honors from the North American Guild of Beer Writers and reflects her long-standing passion for amplifying women’s stories in the industry.

Beyond writing, Tara has spent more than a decade volunteering with the Pink Boots Society and founded Beer for Babes, New Jersey’s first beer education group for women. She frequently appears as a host or panelist for organizations such as the Smithsonian, Colonial Williamsburg, and NBC Sports, and is often cited as a beverage expert in publications like Wine Enthusiast and Food & Wine.

Tara also designs and teaches university-level beer and spirits courses, consults for clients including Visit Philly and NZ Hops, Ltd., and is a certified beer judge. After growing up in Puerto Rico and living in 11 states and countries, she now makes her home on Camden, NJ’s riverfront, just outside Philadelphia.
